Purpose of Workshop/Skills Taught/ Methodology

The purpose of the DRM workshop is both to develop practical skills for humanitarian practitioners or volunterers who are involved in initiatives across the Disaster Risk Management Cycle (DRMC) , this including work in complex emergencies, in both Australia and overseas. The heart of the workshop is a combination of the four participative diagrams which are explained in the link below, as well as the global ISO 31000 risk management framework. www.torqaid.com/images/stories/drmframeworkshort.pdf

This is a practically-based intensive workshop which combines both classroom teaching and, for those seeking advanced standing towards off-campus graduate courses offered by three Australian universities, follow-up assignments. 1. See diagram at the end of this brochure.

Who is this workshop for?

This workshop is designed both for humanitariah practitioners and volunteers who are likely to be working in either Australia or overseas. The following link provides a list of nearly 150 organisations/agencies, whose staff have attended earlier DRM workshops www.torqaid.com/images/stories/drmparticipantagencies.pdf These organisations (and separate individuals) include: • Australian and overseas Emergency Managers involved in various initiatives across their respective Emergency Management Plans. • NGO and UN agency staff supporting supporting overseas humanitarian situations. • Business sector stakeholders involved in supporting domestic or overseas humanitatian initiatives.

The Workshop

Run at 277 Little Lonsdale St Melbourne, from the 25th - 27th November 2015.

Facilitator

Mr Chris Piper, TorqAid (www.torqaid.com) Director and Senior Trainer/Facilitator, with assistance from a couple of guest speakers. These include Evan Lewis, Program Manager, Barwon Otway Bushfi re Risk Landscape; and George Salloum, President Syrian Expatriate Association Inc, Victoria.

AUD $1,500 (excl. of GST) for three day workshop only

AUD $1,750 (excl. of GST) for workshop plus follow-up assignment.

Advanced Standing

Eligible participants who complete the workshop, together with follow-up assignments, can apply for advanced standing/accreditation in specialised post-graduate level programs as offered by Murdoch, Curtin, and Charles Sturt Universities. See page 2 for more details.
